Applicants tentatively selected for vacant positions are routinely subject to drug testing and background investigation. The drug test requires that the applicant provide a hair specimen in sufficient quantity. A urine specimen, as necessary to comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation requirements, may also be required. The removal or absence of body hair which results in an insufficient quantity of hair for the test or the inability to provide a urine specimen without medical justification substantiated by a medical doctor will be considered refusal to provide a specimen and grounds to discontinue the application process. Final appointment to the position is contingent upon an acceptable background investigation, negative drug test when performed and approval by the City Manager.
